Things The Velvet Blog has secretly endorsed

Secret U.S. Endorsement of Severe Interrogations
WASHINGTON, Oct. 3 -- When the Justice Department publicly declared torture "abhorrent" in a legal opinion in December 2004, the Bush administration appeared to have abandoned its assertion of nearly unlimited presidential authority to order brutal interrogations. But soon after Alberto R. Gonzales's arrival as attorney general in February 2005, the Justice Department issued another opinion, this one in secret. ...

It's time for The Velvet Blog to come clean, exposing everything it has secretly endorsed:

--Adorable puppies
--Orangutan-O's
--George Clooney
--Sock monkey slippers
--Stirrings Bloody Mary Mix (especially after reading the newspaper)

Jim, if you like Bloody Marys try a Wasabi Bloody Mary. I had one at a japanese restaurant a month or so ago. Okay, I had 2. I wanted more, but at $9 a pop, thats all I could do. God it was good. I found some recipes online, I'll experiment and let you know if you're interested.

Bloody Marys, now there's a subject.

My rules:

NO MIXES!!

Well that pretty much does it. Get some tomato juice and the other stuff and make it. Much, much better, and almost impossible to get at a commercial establishment.

after perusing the web, this is the recipe I'm going to try:
1/2 cup fresh lime juice
4 1/2 teaspoons wasabi
6 cups low-sodium V8 juice (V-8)
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 1/4 teaspoons hot pepper sauce
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups vodka
Combine lime juice and wasabi with a whisk, until wasabi disolves.
Combine wasabi mixture, veggie juice, worcestershire sauce, pepper sauce and salt in a pitcher; chill.
Stir in vodka and serve over ice.

I'll let you know after sunday, when I wake up from my wasabi coma.

Be careful--that sounds very powerful.

msyvone,

You need a small dollup (sp?) (and, is a dollup small?) of horseradish.

Though, having gone back through the recipe, the wasabi probably will cover it, sorry I overlooked that the first time through.

well, I must say it cleared up my head cold quite nicely. It was missing something - mmmm - pepper-y? Can't quite put my finger on it.
BUT, it was quite tasty just the same. 4.5 tsb's of wasabi = an entire tube.

dave ~ a dollop of daisy? :o)
