New management came to visit. The choice comment (paraphrased): In this business environment, you've got to bear a lot of puppies and be willing to drown a few without getting sentimental.

So that's motivation? For who? Ted Bundy?!
'drown puppies!'... *mutter mutter mutter*
Now... if they had said yuppies, that would be a different story.
It's just such an awful metaphor that I had trouble concentrating after hearing it. (His point was: Create lots of stuff [in our case, magazines, newsletters, Web sites, whatever], and close 'em down if they don't succeed. And, I guess, if it puts people out of work, throw 'em in the river in a burlap sack with a heavy chain tied around their ankles.)
Ever see a rather obscure Michael Caine movie from the mid-'80s called A Shock to the System? It kind of bombed, but I liked it. It's a dark, dark comedy about a guy who murders his way up the company ladder, and no one notices.
I'm wondering now if it was a documentary.
A shock to the System? No. I did see American Psycho where this guy killed a lot of hookers and the company covered it up for him... but that isn't the same is it? ;)
Any motivational speaker who hires people to leave spam links must be pretty pathetic.
