Friends from church invited me to fly with them to Block Island yesterday in their Beechcraft four-seater. I'd never been in a small plane before, so it was really exciting--and beautiful.

It's pretty loud in there, so we had to wear these.

Lovely leading edge. And, wow. That's a lot of crack filler on the runway ... smooth landings be damned, huh.
Did you feel at all "Top Gun"? I'd think it impossible not to.
It's odd--to me, it didn't feel as if we were going fast, though we were cruising at about 150 mph. When I realized shortly after takeoff that we were already where Long Island forks off, I was very surprised.
I was worried about getting airsick--I have a senstive stomach--but it was quite smooth.
Oh, and both landings were pretty smooth, too.
So you flew out to Block Island for the ducks?
;)
Well, we also ate ice cream.
No way would you get me into one of those things.
You can see Block Island from my mother's front deck and I'm about 1/4 mile inland from her. You should have waved.
