Can anyone explain to me the great appeal of the Peep?

It's just a marshmallow--and not an especially tasty one. Is it just the seasonal availability? The "cute" factor?

If the latter, why not take a real chick and roll it in sugar?

Good thing you included a photo of "a real chick". We could have all gotten off down the wrong path here!

It's the stiff and crunchy coating--that's why they taste better when they're nearly stale.

I'm all for peeps.. and letting them get a bit stale.

But let's face it, we've all tried the "real" chick in sugar trick --- it's just too bloody. (tho tasty).
